The Guan Im pearl paste is a traditional skin remedy used by the Chinese for generations. The paste uses a high percentage of genuine pearl powder to formulate its medicated compound. Guan Im is the Goddess of Mercy in the Buddhist and Taoist religions. In these religious iconographies, Guan Im is always depicted with a beautiful and flawless complexion. It is with this aim in mind that this cream is formulated.  Having won the 'Thai best product of the year 1990', this cream has long been regarded as the 'number one' face cream.

While pearl is not a herb, it is nevertheless a vital component of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A pearl is actually a precious gemstone, the result of a combination of minerals that forms around a grain of sand or other foreign matter in the shells of oysters and other mollusks. Although the bulk of a pearl is made of a substance called calcium carbonate, it also contains dozens of amino acids and minerals, including magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, selenium and silicon.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pearl can be administered internally or externally. Internally, pearl is used as part of a tonic to calm the spirit and clear phlegm from the body; other uses include improving ones eyesight and invigorating circulation. Externally, pearl is used as a powder or cream ingredient to help heal blemishes and other skin problems, and to prevent the skin from becoming wrinkled and haggard. Constant use of this ointment will impart an a flawless radiance to the skin.

[ Usage ]

Wash the skin with water and apply this ointment after some drying of the skin, 1-2 times daily.

Sulfur is legendary for providing relief for various skin ailments, especially acne. Together with pearl's brightening properties, the skin is expected to be clear and luminous. Sulphur, an active mineral ingredient, also helps the skin resist bacteria, while preserving the skin. Sulfur is a yellow crystalline mineral that has long been used for its medicinal properties. There are some places in the world having many hot springs (like at Vajreshwari, Maharashtra State in India) where the water certainly boils when it comes out of the earth. Continuous flow of his type of water from the springs results in small pond-like formations nearby the spring. There are plenty of such ponds in the world. The water is somewhat yellow-brown in color and it has an odor of sulfur. Some of the practical practice says that all kind of skin disorders including acne can be treated here. It is quite unbelievable at first glance, but it does happen. This is approved not only by local dermatologists but many people also support the truth that had beneficial effect of such springs.

Many imitations have been made available recently, especially in Malaysia and Dubai. Do note the original packaging and marks when purchasing. It is best to purchase from a reputable source. Note that the plastic jar and outer box is beige in colour and there is no gold coloured ring around the plastic jar.

Pearl + snow lotus plant cream

The snow lotus, a specialty and a rare herb produced in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, grows in the crevices in rocks scattered above the snow level on the mountains of Tianshan, Altai, and Kunlun. It is a perennial herb and grows slowly although with strong vitality. Usually, only 5 percent of the seeds can sprout, and the plant requires three years of growth to reach fruition.

Due to the low temperature, the snow does not melt in spring and autumn. Growing in this environment, the property of snow lotus is lukewarm and tastes a little bit bitter. It enhances the Yang, the essence of male energy, and regulates the Ying, the essence of female activity. Successful harvesting has made this plant commercially available in limited quantities.

Currently, more than 60 kinds of medicine, health care products, and cosmetics are made of the plants, using about 20 tons of dry snow lotuses a year. Picture on the left show wild snow lotuses growing in the arid regions of Xinjiang.
